Has anyone on here had their website penalized by google?

I have heard people say not to do this or that but the truth is I have a site that I have submitted massive amounts of links too. Using the free backlink tools, free ping tools anything free I did it. It still Ranks higher then my other sites I have babied in the exact same Niche on Google. So I am just curious other than the Google Dance has anyone ever actually been penalized and if so what was it that you did?

my sites didnt get punished till now. but maybe you can explain which massive free tools you used, for beginners here in the forum

I haven't been penalized but I have worked for many penalized site to improve their ranking. here are some factor to get a site penalized by google
Excessive reciprocal links
Duplicate content
Overusing H1 tags
Internal 404s error
Keyword stuffed content
and many more........

yea more than 3 of my site have been penalized but i just keep going, my new strategy is just to create loads of contents let them rank on their own with know backlinks

I oversee lots of sites that are dying: not just mine but others as well. But there's so many different TYPES of penalties these days it's hard to identify whether X/Y/Z was the cause of it, and even if you 'fix' X and Y -- Z can still be in effect.

We're all so in Google FEAR mode and thinking from a PENALTY perspective. But here's the reality: When you're site(s) no longer get onto Page 1 it's often because you simply do not have the SITE AUTHORITY any more to get there for an ever increasing number of competitive, commercial, and product keywords.

Many of us USED to be on Page 1 of SERPS for, say, tech products. But now only Big Retailers (Amazon, BestBuy, eBay) or Manufacturers (Logitech, Creative Labs, HP, etc), maybe some HighPR Tech blogs or Forums dominate Page 1 for keyword after keyword after keyword. A younger, non-authoritative site being shoved off to Page 2 or beyond IMMEDIATELY results in an 80% traffic loss. You may not be penalized, but it FEELS like it as traffic dries up.

EMD - PMD Exact and Partial Match Domains don't help nearly as much as they used to -- So frequently your 1-5 year old site just isn't going to get on Page 1 alongside established domains that have been online for 7, 12, 15+ years. In a nutshell, Google tightened the noose, and EASY rankings for young, small sites just isn't ever going to happen again. And much of it isn't from being deeply 'Punished' per-se -- it's just that we don't deserve to be REWARDED for our pathetic efforts using a few handfuls of krappy links to prop it up...
