From what I've learned is that the algos google uses frequently change and that its become more than an art than a science. Bumping this thread up though for possibly more answers from the more senior members.

Low difficult and High search keyword with high-quality content is the key. No shortcut.
Yup, there are no short ways for it. You need to work on quality and unique content that is user or audience will give more impression to your site. Get some high DA links which best suits your niche. will give you good ranks. you need to update frequently on those target page/keyword with new content.Quote:

You have to understand that here is something called domain competitive power....It is essential that you target keywords with similar keyword competition as your domain competitive power .....for example last time I checked keyword web hosting had keyword competition value around 75-80 ....you will never rank 1-10 places for thos keyword with domain with less competitive power than at least 50 ....Domain age is one of the most important factor....even if it has very low SEO rank if domain is few years old you will incrase SEO much faster than with new domain.I have domain that rank very high for some high cmpetitive keywords but in start I targeted mostly low comptition keywords and for higher one I payed ads...So it is very important to know your limits....afcourse you have to work all the time to incrase domain competitive power but in same time target keywords with similar keyword cometition value as your domain competitive power.Quote:

It is better for you to be on first page for keyword with 50% relevance than on 40th page for 100% relevant keyword...So ..it is very important to find 15-20 keywords with keyword competition lower than 50 or even 40 .....and target those keywords...after that you will incrase also domain SEO rank and than you can start slowly target more popular keywords

If you want to be on the top so you can run PPC but it does not help you in ranking, it is best when you want a quick results and your budget is good.
