Do you think Google would be 1st forever?

I just want to know your thoughts about the popularity of Google.

Do you think Google will always be on the #1 spot of the most popular websites all over the world? If not, how many years more do you think Google would maintain its popularity and remain on the #1 spot?

Nothing is forever. Hard to predict, but as we learned from the past, things can change rapidly and unexpectedly sometimes. I think it is safe to say that it will stay relevant for years to come.

As I look back on my 30 years of computing: I've seen tech companies at the TOP of the heap - and who seemed to have an iron-grip on the market - slide into irrelevance and death. Software companies like Lotus 1-2-3, DBase, WordPerfect. A search engine like WebCrawler - which WAS the Google of it's heyday. PALM - which once OWNED the handheld market. Too many more fatalities to count. Now, they're just a footnote in history. I see Goog this way too: They'll someday become as boring as Yahoo, as predictably dull as Microsoft seems to be getting these days... and people will move onto the Next Cool Thing.

Google won't be first forever because there is always going to be room for improvement. Something new, better will pop up eventually. I think however that Google will never be very far from first place even in 30 years from now.

Many thought Yahoo would stay the best and as we all saw, they have sunk to a level we never seen. I think they made a big mistake in not selling to Microsoft!...who knows if Bing will be among te top SE's in 30 years.hmm...

I think it will be a completely different SE at the top in 30 years with Google not far behind!

Google has used their vast resources to hire a lot of very smart people. They do a lot of research and have heavy computing power. Using a distributed computing model they probably could have a super computer just using their spare cycles. As long as they maintain their focus it may take a paradigm shift to effect a change in the order of things.

Okay now Google is No1 but I think Facebook will get on No1 one day
    Alexa Top 500 Global Sites

I can remember when Yahoo was one of the first search engines... then Google was coming in the business and owns every search engines. I Think one day another search engine coming with better features.

I agree that nothing is forever, but Google definitely works hard to maintain their rank as #1 in the search engine industry.

They give the best results, period. (At least for me.) Other competitors are trying to add too much and it dilutes what I'm really looking for.

And honestly, I think that's the bottom line. As long as they give people what they are looking for and not what others say we should be looking for. Make sense? All these fancy widgets and doodads just dilute the results.

My vote is on Google for a long time to come.

Nothing can be at the top of the world for forever, the main thing is, we don't know how long google will survive, my prediction google will survive for another 10 years, who knows maybe others company one day would create more powerful than google

Well, Microsoft has always tried to make money else where, but in reality it all comes from Office/OS sales.

Google, tries to make money elsewhere, investing in lots of different directions, but in reality, everything they do is to try and create more ad space, for their ad serving technology, which just minds money. I think Google, like Microsoft, will flounder around trying to make new businesses, but will ultimately always rely on adwords.

Bing has taken 30% of market share now, even though it's like 12% bing, 15% yahoo, 3% other, they are working hard to recapture that. They probably will, through some under handed tactics, that will get the masses to convert without realizing it.

Facebook will likely implode on it self, pissing many people off. It has essentially two features. Post pictures, Write on wall. Everything else is an attempt to make it better, but in reality, it's twitter without the 160 character limit and some pictures. Much like MySpace, a competitor could easily come along and start eroding their market share. Considering 25% of the google employee bonus this relies on social networking successes, there is a good chance google will figure something out, to start eating away at the facebook dominance.

No, they will not be No1 forever, however they are trying to keep their standard by recruiting smart people from all around the world, but it won't work always. Facebook can come to the top

Every business which puts the customer in first place has the potential to become ahead of google. I think google is very offensive in they tactics and at the moment they have a monopoly position, especially in europe, but then they continue to offer no customer service to the people who made them big and keep they arrogant style (closing accounts without warning etc.) the competition will close that gap.
