Has anyone noticed the sudden changes in Google rankings lately? I'm monitoring several sites (my sites + tens of others). And 100% of them experienced a change in ranking within the same time period just recently.

Maybe google will become more efficient?
on the 18. was an backlink-update! ;-)
Visit mozcast.com to see a daily chart of changes to the top-10 SERPS at Google. This chart has been VERY volatile reflecting the ongoing nature of the Penguin 2.0 rollout that started in July 2013.
Also look at the METRICS page to see various SEO factors affecting SERPS -- Especially the EXACT and PARTIAL Match as a ranking factor.
Thanks macgizmoguy! I knew I was right. :-) I was doing the same thing with all my sites as what mozcast do (only manually). And I experienced the swing earlier, around the date mentioned by Looki.
Google is SERIOUSLY messing with the internet this summer. 80% of the sites I monitor are getting strangled for ever-fewer ranking keywords and dying a slow death. However, Google CYCLES them in and out with periodic crawls, a bit of traffic on more long-tail keywords, then it vanishes again.
I see this across nearly 100 sites. Clearly Penguin 2.0 is learning EVEN MORE about all the KRAPPY BACKLINKS we have -- and as THEY get punished, links that used to prop sites up in the ranking and show up as referring traffic keep vanishing...
Worse, Bing (and by extension, Yahoo) has been VERY volatile as well over the summer. They used to provide a rather steady baseline of traffic - but my charts show Bing is swinging up and down just as much as Google is!
Makes me wonder if, with the BingItOn Campaign comparing Bing vs Google search results -- That Bing isn't starting to look at and scrape Google's Top Authority Sites for Page 1 SERPS -- and making getting seen on Bing/Yahoo ALOT harder than it used to be... Organic Search Traffic is starting to feel IMPOSSIBLE to sustain with any consistency. Ugh!
Yeah it's crazy. I think Google just wants us to use or pay for its Adwords, etc. :-)
I'm imagining what would be the scenario when all the 1000+ new TLDs shall be live online. It'll be one hell of a ride...
Today I checked all my sites again as well as test sites, and all I mean all improved in SERPs greatly
I don't know is this another update from google or is it same as you mentioned,
most of my sites where using backlinks from my tolls(obviously ) especially bookmarks from public and private networks,
but similar things happened for sites using extreme wikis...
I suspect that google is giving backlinks more weight as a ranking factor again, but time will tell as always.
Can anyone confirm this?

I posted Yesterday Morning that my site was ranking #1 slot for google under dallas bathtub refinishing. today it is back to #6. I don't know what the deal was yesterday but google obviously did something. The site that was ranking #1 I have put almost zero work into. Yet other site maintains a constant #9 slot. Which is fine with me, Im just saying #1 on a site with a few backlinks and nothing else. That was odd.
