Thread: My Press Release OUT-RANKS My Money Site

Here's an interesting problem: A press-release of mine at SBWire (PR5) is occupying the #2 slot at Google, my main money site (PR3) sits at #4 -- (and worse, now positioned _underneath_ a block of product images.) It's hurt my money site traffic and income significantly.

The press-release submission was outsourced months ago - so I don't control the account nor have the power to DELETE the release myself. It is sending referral traffic to my money site INDIRECTLY but would be better off it wasn't there - or ranked lower.

The money site is my #1 cash generator and highest traffic site of my empire. The Press Release is about 5 months old - and just doesn't want to fade out like most releases do. Possibly my fault for building tiered links to it...

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN THIS SITUATION? The authority of SBWire is clearly outranking my 6 year old domain with a strong backlink profile that other's naturally linked to over the years.

That is good and bad in same time.
You can always build more links and do other seo stuff to boost your main site.
Just don't go crazy with the links and other stuff.

A press release is a DEEP LINK, so anything that can promote inner-page URLs: Social Bookmarking, Social Media Sharing, A Backlink Indexing service, Blog network posts.

The quirky part about ranking a press release all hinges largely on the Release Title - If the main keyword(s) targeted in the title are high-traffic BUT LOW COMPETITION. Then a release might outrank other sites dedicated to that niche.

I haven't done Press Releases extensively - perhaps others could share their insights. But from my observation, sometimes you just get lucky with a particular release and it does well and stays in the SERPS a long time, most others are good for initial traffic but it fades within a week or two...

Press releases are always a good way of generating traffic to your sites and Goog loves them.

all what i would like to tell u is its good not bad situation ..

reason is on top 5 now you have total 2 website so that will benefit to you ..

for more benefit all what you can do is just try to pull up your money site and put it on top compare to press release site ..

My guess is that there's something wrong with your site. A PR has only one type of links. A website should have many different types of links. I'd work on your site, clean it up every way you know how, and fatten it up with better content and a variety of links.
