I think domain/category/product.html is best structure of URL. It's really help you

I think site.com/category/product.html is better option because
1. it provides better description for the product nature and characteristic
2. It allows the bot to identify the what the inner page is about in a better way
3. You can use a keyword in the url in category which will benefit while ranking,
4. It will make easier for user to find the product he needs directly through the category he wants to choose, will avoid confusion.

In my opinion the better to promote is domain.com/product.html, because it will be easy to catch up when promoting it

"www.domain.com/category/product.html" this is having good chance to index easily in Google..because which gives clear navigation to google..

As per my experience am saying your first URL will be promote easily, because it is having clearly mentioned url..

Google has been suggesting webmasters to implement rich snippet in their website in order to make categorization more easier, so i think that putting categorize within your URL is also a good indication to help Google has a good understanding of your site structure.
