Still doing it, but not using exact match keyword phrases. More branding anchors like your "http://www.url.com/" link as anchor and 'click here' anchors and really only from the top PR/alexa sites. I'm treating them more like press releases where it's not really spun and just for syndication sake. Then, if you want, you can get nasty and mass spin from badbay article dir.s to your tier 1s.

Hmm.. What's the usual time taken to index those new links? and howz the turn-around time?? A month or two?
Since the new update, i'm more on the social media site than on article submissions...
after Google updates my focus is on Articles and social bookmarking websites, some time forums, but most I like to get backlinks from articles websites, but my list is good and dont try to post in junk websites
Yes, article submission is still effective if you will do it in the below way :
Write relative, quality and fresh content
Focus on the different anchor text in each post
Submit one unique article in a article directory
So you're submitting your articles to non-autoapproved directories right? cause they are to some extent - "spam free"
I have some article directories and blogs that pull content from a content distribution network. An article came in today about post-penguin article marketing. It was written by an article marketing pro. Many of these people are in a department in a full service SEO company but some are independent. I don't know which class this author is in, but the article makes some good points: http://beforeyoubuyawebsite.com/blog...ore-effective/
The opening paragraph sets the stage:
Keep writing articles and forget the Google Penguin update. What are you going to do if not that? Stop writing? Give up? Cry? None of these makes sense, and Google is not making it impossible for people to have their web pages indexed and listed.

Well if you don't have high quality content, you don't even have to think about doing off site SEO.
I have a technical blog where off site SEO is done automatically by the readers. That's how it works:
1. They have a technical problem.
2. They search on google
3. After going through 10 pages of Google, they find my post which resolves their problem
4. They post it on a forum
5. I rank higher.
I think that people google Technical Problems at work are the only people going beyond page 1... i get clicks even when listed on position 20+.
I think social bookmarking and article submission brings more to the website.
Hmm... some of you are giving Social Bookmarking more value, is it because they get indexed a bit faster or for some other reason?
Yops, i am using articles marketing to get backlinks - but from only selected sites, and different keywords, related + brand name. Also i have not done it on my MAIN site yet, just going to test it now, its looks very late.... i keen to see some results now

It was much better to get higher ranking ( I got top 3 for middle to competitive keywords ) with just social bookmarking in last year, but after penguin and getting one bad hit on my one client site, i avoided the social sites, now again i am going to change my strategy and checking them now, with related + brand name keywords. Also checked on blogs too with long tail keywords in last days, they work well for them now days too but if you do them wisely.
