No, SEO does not mean spammer. But there are a lot of people out there that seem to think it is (IMHO). The difference between the two are the techniques. The only way to figure that out is to read through material like Google's webmaster tools, read through forums that are related to seo and IM, and see what others are saying or doing, or teaching. It also has a lot of grey areas. But to name an example, gaining access to a forum and immediately advertising a site without taking the proper measures like getting into the community, talking and helping, or generally just obeying the rules set, can get people to think you're a spammer and only there to get a link in the mix and move on.

No, not at all, if SEO be spammer then search engine can not produce quality result to users. Some cases people who are using unethical methods to get higher ranking considered as spammer and search engine punish hardly those type of methods and website.

Of course not, seo is way you optimized your website to be in google or any search engine rankings. If you promote and advertise it in natural way, it is not spamming.

Certainly true and it's often hard to tell where whitehat ends and blackhat starts, but all techniques relying on automated mass generation of links only work short term. So, nice for a quick buck but long term you need those quality links, too.

Actually there are two types of SEO black and white hat, White hat conforms to the search engines' guidelines and involves no deception while black hat technique uses text that is hidden, either as text colored similar to the background so that's the time scamming . It is how you use SEO in a good way or bad ways where you can get traffic of your website.

SEO is not a spammer but there are people who do spamming just to throw links for the sake of traffic. But people who are sincere with the job are not just links throwers.

It depends, some use the techniques for Seo for ethical purposes and unethical; which for the latter, it gives SEO a bad name, which is where quality comes into play when you create your links, such as a blog you may have on your site, many come by and just say dumb stuff to get a link; others contribute to the conversation, and get a link, so it goes both ways.

Depends, if you're solely concentrating on building links while not really considering any other factors, imo that's being considered a spammer. Let's say you're concentrating on all other factors such as on-site, how to deal with traffic, etc. How will then someone call you a spammer?

I think it is a fine line between black hat and white hat SEO. Sure, white hat follows the search engine guidelines which for example, would mean absolutely no automation for backlink building. However, if all your competitors are using automated SEO techniques, what chance do you stand unless you follow suit. The truth is automated backlinks work and this can certainly be done without spamming.

Getting your website to #1 on the SERPs can mean big bucks so you can't blame people for trying. Personally, I see SEO as two things:

    1. Create good, relevant content (and I always create my own content, I never automate this part).

    2. Get backlinks from a variety of sources and yes, I do use some automation as well as manual methods. I see backlinks as promoting my site across the internet and I believe automation is a legitimate part of this.

Like other people have said here already, there is indeed a fine line between doing proper SEO and becoming an out and out spammer. Very slippery slope, there.

Amazingly high quality content is the best measure for whether you're spamming, in my opinion. If your content is unique, valuable and helpful, then I don't think you're spamming if you fight to make sure that content is viewed by as many people as possible.

I'm really asking these kinds of questions a lot at the moment as I learn more and more about SEO.

I think on page SEO done properly is ethical and not part of the spam equation. Off site SEO is a different question. If you want to get lots of links filling the ether with articles, blog posts and comments about your niche are adding content about your niche that you have (or should have) high quality copy about on your site.

On one analysis, it is filling the web with extra stuff inferior to your original copy with a view to getting people to look at your site. Maybe not spam as such, maybe ethical in the sense Google say it is too.

That said it is part of thenecessary method which needs to be done to get a good ranking( in most cases).

LOL: Sometimes this is true for some websites. I totally agree. But not for all.
