SEO and more SEO...and then hope for the best ?

Recently I've talked to one of my contacts who referred to SEO marketing as "Hope Marketing". It got me thinking and it actually confirmed the feeling I've had for quite a while now...

The only websites I see SEO is useful for is adsense niche sites and non-commercial websites. Some of the biggest 6 and 7 figure entrepreneurs have stopped PPC and SEO marketing about a year ago. This was quite easy to find out through spyfu.com. In fact, most of them don't do ANY SEO at all, because they get ten times better results otherwise. It sais a lot about results from SEO if you want to make good money online selling a product or service.

After discussing with some other successful marketers I came to the following for entrepreneurs who want success to some extend selling a digital product:

    - PPC is almost dead
    - Article marketing is a waste of a LOT of time you could use on implementing other strategies
    - Backlinking will only boost your rankings, but won't bring you sales
    - There's no real profit to be made without investing a little bit first
    - Starting out with affiliate marketing is not as rewarding

The best and fastest results, biggest (quality) mailing list and the best partner relationships (the most affiliates) are through selling your own product(s). Through SEO you MIGHT sell a few in months, but using appropriate strategies and investing some will get you tons of sales in a very short time and you'll have your investment back in probably the first week and in some cases after the 1st hour of your product launch.

I've been researching the whole product launch method and tested it with a small 17 dollar product in a tiny niche, without JV partners, without public announcements. To my surprise I sold about ten times more in 3 days than I've done before in one year.

I don't want to discourage anyone here, but I want to show you that SEO takes a lot of time. Some of that time you can spend on other things, strategies, product creation, building a small network of potetnial partners, building authority status (not authority websites), etc..

Those who have gone through my training course have a pretty good idea and I'm going to focus on one of the most powerful strategies out there and tweak it for my business. I will write a report on it when I'm ready for IMT members to download for free.

You can count on a shocking case study in the next few weeks/months !

I can undrstand why they would call it hope marketing. The only problem is that most people have been "programmed" to chase the coveted page ranking. They think that, if they do not rank, they will not sell. Hence they do what they can to make sure that they get to the top of the SE rankings. SEO may be a part of internet marketing, but its not the be all and end all. It's the base you use to structure your campaign on and work from there. You do what you need to do to get the website indexed, and ranked well, yes, but then you also need to focus on how you would sell your product. It's all well and good to put up a website, add a product, and then blast the site to all manner of websites around the net, and get it to page one, but if you don't focus on the product itself and getting the product out there instead of the site, things might not go exactly the way you want them to and it would take longer.

Marketing is about getting a brand or product or service out there for everyone to see, its about selling this product or brand or service to potential customers. Focusing on SEO is going to focus attention on your site, and leave your product wanting, where you could have spent more time working on the product, perfecting it and building a client base. Using partners could help because they are going to help you market your product, and not your site. Even a mailing list is about product and not the site itself. The site is merely a home for the product to "live" in so that customers know where to find it.

IMHO building a good looking and well optimized site is only the beginning. Everyone needs a good looking site that is user friendly and all that jazz, but spending all that time promoting a site is not going to help you get the product sold if you are only focusing on SEO results for the site. Using partners etc. and marketing your product or service will eventually help boost the site your product is on, and help you rise in ranks regardless. So, in my weird way (as usual) all I am trying to say is this, buidling a stunning site, ranking the site, and making sure its on the top of the searches for any given niche is not going to help you at all when you've lost focus on your product or service, and people will more than likely not buy it, or refer people to it.

    My 2 cents anyhow
