I found this post this morning and thought I would give it a share. The information on it answers just about every SEO question there is, so prepare for a long read

It tells you about every aspect of your page, from page size to keyword density to the design of the site as well.

The same keyword repeated one after the other a few times, for example air tickets on-line, air tickets, air tickets, air tickets, air tickets in Hong Kong is a questionable trick. For this example, there will be three repetitions reported, because the keyword was placed three times in a row after it was used first. Such repetitions are considered as spam by most search engines.

Nice post Phoenyx. I guess you covered just about everything for those who are starting. I've seen lots of useful info in this section for newcomers, so I'd advise them to browse through it and absorb.

Good that you explain about the keywords and how to use them. Many overload their pages with keywords, which usually results in penalties with google.

Thanks Andre, Truth is though, its not mine It is one of a few blogs / articles I read through at any given time. When I saw this post, I felt it would be perfect to share with newcomers as it is really a complete guideline. So far, I am glad to say, that many people here have echoed the exact same thing, so it makes me feel that there is more value to the post than I initially gave it credit for.

On site optimisation is easy, and natural to achieve on a basic website.
The most important factor I believe is: In general, the more links that point to your page, the better your page will rank.
However, a large number of links is not the deciding factor that helps your site get to the top of the results pages -- the quality of those links is of greater importance.

What I've found helps really well when creating backlinks is using your main keyword in several different phrases, pointing to the same page. Even if some of those phrases are high competition keywords. Use every phrase in your content and internal linking. Your website will be found on all of the phrases you use (depending on how big the competition is), because your content makes them relevant to your main keyword and what your website is generally about. Best is about 60% - 70% backlinking with your main keyword and the rest using relevant phrases containing your main keyword.

You hardly see salespages (if any) for "Make Money Online" products with PR. This way I managed to get PR2 on my salespage within 2 months (in combination with using on-site SEO on my main page).
However...I've not used any phrases like "you can make a lot of money" or "get rich guaranteed" and such, because google just doesn't like those and mostly ignores those pages. Avoiding hyped up content helps a lot, too.
