How can I differentiate "gray hat" from white hat and black hat?

What kind of elements are included in this?

Grey hat techniques are those which are accepted in search engine guidelines but their excessive use or I shall say abusive use results in deliberate ranking manipulation.

E.g. Link building is advised in guidelines but automated link building or link trading is not acceptable because you are manipulating the techniques for improving your rankings.

Some other grey hat techniques are,
- Keyword stuffing
- Content scrapping or duplicate content
- Automated link building

Generally speaking white hat is basically creating a website and then letting Google find it and rank it (maybe creating an article or video or two and posting them)...and you hope that someone links to your site.

Grey hat SEO is a technique which is accepted under the SEO technique guide lines and In the Grey Hat mainly five contents are included and they are as bellow:

1. Automated Link Buying
2. Duplicate contents
3. Cloaking
4. Paid Linking
5. Web Redesign

Agree, but this for on-page, how about off-page? Is blog commenting considered as gray, black hat?
