What is better for rankings Old or New domain?

Do you believe that having an old domain can help you to get better ranking for your desired keywords?
So why some of new domains can compete with old ones in some cases?

As said by Matt Cutts, website age does not affect ranking.
The ranking depends on the richness of your content and quality of internal as well as backlinks. Much more, your website should be optimized frequently for better search ranking results.

I can agree to some extent, but I wouldn't blindly trust everything what Matt Cutts or Google spam team are saying...
Also from my experience I can say that aged domains have huge advantage over new domains, but this is not strict rule.

I think old domains have a small advantage over the new ones. However new domains also can rank well

aged domain is better if the domain has had an active site from start. There is no value in dropped domains IMO.

this is very true, older domains with active sites are worthy.

From my own knowledge aged domains have a slight advantage. So if you can get one it is desirable.

Dropped means it's been removed from registry and available for registering again.

big advantage on OLD ONE , but doing the same SEO methods on both new and old are just the same result but I guess old one has more reliability when it comes on doing BlackHAT on it as it is old one and what google as expected that your blog/site would be rank in a matter of sh*itty months LOL.

I think Domain age have no much impact on rankings but it's a helping factor to achieve higher page rank.

More like it's other way. It won't have any impact on PR but it will effect ranking. Because domain is already indexed for a while and have an active site then you get more points from Google than for a brand new domain name.

Agreed, i read hundred time about google give the value/point for old domain ( that being active online).. it just like Google trust that site, and some people said it is 'domain trust'
