They all use varying techniques and factors to rank websites. Meta keywords are obsolete to the major search engines, but Chinese search engine giant Baidu.com, I've heard, does take meta keywords into consideration when ranking websites.

No one knows all the differences between the search engines or how they rank websites, but it's best to just do solid SEO work for your website. With good SEO, you won't go wrong with any search engine. Sure, you may have to pay more attention to certain factors more depending on the SE, but the basic concepts are the same.

They're fairly different--we have keywords ranked #1 on Google but no where on Yahoo/Bing and keywords in top 3 on Yahoo/Bing that are on page 2-3 on Google. Google pays more attention to quality in my opinion and Yahoo/Bing pay more attention to the number of links but again this is just in my experiences.

They have different ranking systems. I'm not very familiar with bing or yahoo but I know Google likes backlinks from high page rank sites and high quality unique content.

I have the same experience with several websites in different niches. It's a known fact I guess that Google looks more at the quality, relevance and uniqueness of the content and how it's reletaed to other websites and even internal pages.

Different search engines use different search algorithm for ranking a site. So, they produce different results.
Google focus on quality of content and backlinks for SERPs.

It's funny because a lot seems to also depend on the on page SEO as well---we have some sites we've built the same exact link profile for and one ranks well on Yahoo while the other doesn't so sometimes it's honestly confusing even to SEO experts
