Thread: How Much Alexa Rank is Important?

This may be a simple question to answer. What I want to discuss that when we talk about ranking, I preferably to check Alexa Ranking of that Website first and second its page rank. I think it is much better for an advertising point of view. Some of my folks say that now Alexa Ranking is not as much important as previously. I want to know that
1. how much relatively Alexa Ranking is important to promote your blog?
2. What is highest Alexa Rank of your website or blog right now?

I have one blog at the moment and it has 179265 in just 3 months. And frankly speaking when I first visit IMTalk.org, the first thing i checked what is its Alexa Ranking? For me it is important, what about you?

its not important for Google rankings and I don't care it more

People have always focussed on Alexa ranking to see where their websites stand, working tirelessly to make sure their ranks increase while at the same time forgetting about trying to get their site to rank higher in a search engine. Even my training tells me not to worry about Alexa. Its not going to get your site rank higher in a search engine, and the ranking really means nothing much at all.

I never care about Alexa ranking. May i know why Alexa rank is important?

Many treat an Alexa rank more highly than a Search Engine rank. They believe that if they rank higher in Alexa, then they will have a successful site and they will make more money. They don't realize that its the reverse that is actually true.

This is a key point in the Alexa ranking algorithm. If your visitors are among the demographic likely to use the tool bar you will have a good Alexa rank. My two highest traffic sites have Alexa ranks of 7.6 and 7.8 million while a site with maybe 5% of the traffic of these sites ranks at 485,000 in round numbers. If the Alexa toolbar had broad market penetration, so that it reflected the tastes of the general public, there would be more value to the number.

The toolbar seems to have the greatest penetration in the IM and SEO sectors, so if your site or blog content is on these subjects your Alexa rank is likely to be high (a lower number).

It is important if you are going to sell website/blog or sell advertising space, etc...

It is just a general gauge.

If I were to buy an expensive domain or full site then I would demand many analytic reports and then I would compare it to Alexa, and other publicly available reports. If the publicly available info is way off from what the seller shows in their reports, then I would want to see live data by logging into their server logs, Google Analytics or whatever.

Alexa is handy.

alexa rank is not something that you have to target, ranking is all about, fokus on ranking on google, even the rank cam across million, people stiil can make good conversion if they do the right thing of marketing

I am not so concerned about the rankings.. but i have installed the add ons .. so that when i browse through any new website.. i can found its few info together in alexa !!

I sold 80% on my blog. And all buyers cares about alexa rank. Mine is below 80K

It does not. It is a number a random company says your website is ranked.

How do you sill your blogs? do you use Flippa or some other marketplace?

yea, alexa matters only for this !! but if someone has good number of visitors to their sites, they can show google analytics report to prove that their site is ok to advertise .

Google analytics can be fake but alexa rank may not. So, most of the advertisers watch for alexa rank.

Anup I don't think it's true. Google Analytic data are pretty accurate then Alexa. It's a plus mark to sell ads when you have a below 100k Alexa rating. This can be manipulate pretty easily. In Analytic UV means a visitor who comes within 24 hours no matter how many times visiter return to the site with in 24 hours but Alexa counts every visit no matter how many times same visitor returns to the site.

Alexa rank is decided or totally depends on the alexa tool bar installed in number of PC all over the world and if the website is being opened on them... Its not important to count alexa rank according to me.. Encountered few websites whos alexa rank is way too high and still were earning quick heavy income.

I know it but I was talking about, analytic report is shown by some screen shot and those screen can be fake. Just javascript can edit any websites..
