    Bit of SEO Advice needed

    Hello everyone..

I am new to SEO and have only been doing it for 6 months on my own site and not commercially reselling my services..

But I am coming to a stumbling block that I cant seem to move up the rankings.

I have done Link Building/Blog Commenting/article Writing/Link Wheeling/Social Bookmarking (still ongoing) My keywords are at 8% density per page and the right (I think) onsite SEO on most of my landing pages.

My main term is doing well the one I have concentrated most of my efforts on, but the deep linking is beginning to take its toll on me as its dropping rankings slightly.

Knowone else in my market place has a clue about backlinking etc they have the onsite seo but nothing backing it up which is why I am wondering why I am going down as I have a better structure than all of them..

Any advice on what to try next..

Site is discosmobile(dot).co.uk Main term mobile disco (delete the (Dot))

and my landing pages are discosmobile(dot).co.uk/mobile-discos-areas.html with all the keywords below as anchor text.(delete the (dot))

not looking for random seo comments just to get up your post numbers

    Thanks in advance

    Rick

I can see in your Meta Tags that you are using more than 10 Keywords. Try to light up to 10 Keywords

Onpage is everything fine. When I see your Alexa Rank I can see that you get no traffic.

    Maybe you need some Backlinks!

    Thanks for the advice Bunny

Yah Alexia is a bit out. I know some of you get and need 000's of hits a day to make money. I just need one phone call a day and its very low search volume as its for a specific product ie Mobile Disco, Wedding DJ, Mobile DJ.

My Main search term gets 1900 exact searches a month and I am position 4 and the landing pages get the quality "related" traffic and the highest search volume for this is 210 exact a month and I am again position 3/4/10, agreed landing/deeplink pages need more work but cant understand why I have not got higher in main search term so I actually get good volume of visitors. When the rest of the sites dont do anything like what I do.

My main page has in google (webmaster tools) 10,000 backlinks and on yahoo its showing 5,000. And my nearest competitor has less than 1000 backlinks all reciprocal.

The only thing they have on me is domain age.

Your COmpetitor dont need much backlinks cause his backlinks brings more quality. He have backlinks from related content.
You can also get backlinks from related content easily by using free blogs with related text and anchor backlinks in the text.

Its recommend to try IMT Supercharged Bookmarks to boost your rankings.

My initial thought is you simply don't have enough WORDS on most pages - particularly in the main Body section of your Index page. The words 'music' and 'dance' / 'dancing' 'event' 'party' / 'parties' seems to be missing in the main body! Sometimes that happens to all of us. We know our niche too well, and forget the obvious - to think 'outside the box' and write from an outsider's perspective. When I hit your homepage - I almost instantly saw a dozen words that OUGHT to be there - that AREN'T!

Clearly you have 1000's of links to your homepage, a quite diverse set of backlink types from ~300 domains - but many of those 4000+ are site-wide blogroll links which are deceptive - and not from unique domains/IP's. A nice smattering of Gov/Edu.

Frankly I don't think linkbuilding is the solution. You're already all over Page One of SERPs so your 'Authority' seems strong enough. I think it's more about Geo-targeting your service areas, and getting your ONPAGE content talking a lot more about DANCING and MUSIC styles and genres.

Last notion: Google's recent Panda/Farmer update has been brutal to pages and mini-sites that are 'light' on words. I've been adding additional paragraphs to some of my sites that got hit. Another 300-500+ words to give Google more to chew on next time they crawl the site helps your long-tail AND 'Freshness' of content for static pages.

thanks Macgizmoguy.. Great help.. Will you quickly take a look at the christenings page and prices page.. Those have been re written a few days ago to include alot more keywords and text and thats got me 2nd for alot of long tail keywords in every town near me (due to google picking up the other landing pages information)..

Do you think they have enough content and should replicate a similar volume of words or should I look at increasing them too..

Oh I am in the UK too and I dont think the Panda/Farmer update is coming over here.. I cant be sure just something I read.

    Regards

    Rick

Yes - Christening and Prices pages have plenty of text to chew on.

Run your homepage (or any subpage URL for that matter) thru this meta analyzer link:
    Meta Tag Analyzer

In particular look at the bottom, especially for the 2-word and 3-word Keyword Phrase section. Ideally most of these phrases should 'make sense' - you want to see phrases like 'Manchester Mobile DJ' or 'Mobile Wedding DJ' or "UK Mobile DJ" "Blackpool Party DJ" and stuff like that. Ideally you'd see some good coherent phrases that make you think "That's EXACTLY what I'd like to rank for" mixed in there. Some will be random, but if your on-page is good you'll see alot of _decent_ sequences of words.

For example, your Christening page's 2 word phrases are EXCELLENT overall:

    christening entertainment - 4 - 0.60%
    christening parties - 3 - 0.45%
    christening dj - 3 - 0.45%
    christening party - 3 - 0.45%
    contact us - 2 - 0.30%
    each other - 2 - 0.30%
    musical games - 2 - 0.30%
    christening music - 2 - 0.30%
    entertainment dj - 2 - 0.30%

As for the 1 word keywords: Keep any single-word DENSITY max <5%. Make sure the Top-10 include Mobile, Disc, Jockey, DJ, Party, Music, UK, Wedding, Birthday, Events, Pub, Club -- and then your top areas and towns.

Last little tip: You tend to write long, long sentences. Use a few more periods instead of commas to keep your sentences more succinct.

Hope this helps, Richard. Get your INDEX page tweaked to perfection - and the other sub-page's won't matter so much. A killer Index page that's optimized well and gets someone to call or email to learn more about your services is all that matters. Put 80% of your energy there. Don't forget to EXPLICITLY ASK for the conversion: "Call or Email to Learn How I Can Help Make Your Party or Event Memorable!"

Keyword density is a pretty dated SEO view so I wouldn't even worry about that. Write good content, make it appealing - the minute you start trying to put keywords is when it goes wrong - keep it natural.

I think you're getting wrapped up too much in SEO, you're a local business offering a service to the local surrounding areas - it'd make more sense to optimise for local searches rather than just opting for the highest volume of searches. Mobile disco may get 1900 searches per month but I don't think that's a converting term.

I'd also work on the site visually, design is an important factor.

Hope this helps, hit me up with any questions you may have.

Hi mossy17 thanks for the advice and really appreciate ANY quality advice I can get. (bit wet behind the ears in SEO and IM)

I agree on the design but that should not stop me from getting to number 1 which is the original dilemma. ( the local thing is only a preferred option but have changed the homepage to reflect national business (with expenses added on prices page Eventually I will spend the money on site design. But for now it will do.

The only "local" thing I am still looking into is these place pages.. and trying to get them to show up in different areas than my own and my landing pages for the decent local search terms..

I think it's important to not just set your stall out for achieving number 1 rankings, in many cases it might not be as fruitful as you think.

Look at this way, which would you prefer? Ranking 1, getting 1,000 hits per month nationally and getting 2 jobs from it, or ranking position 10, getting 200 local hits per month, but getting 20 jobs from those hits. Travelling the UK doing gigs would be class, but if it's not profitable then....

I can't claim to know every individuals search behaviour, but stats show that local searches are constantly rising and I know that if I happened to be looking for a mobile disco - it'd definitely be a local based Bradford search - because 1. I'd probably want to meet the person first and 2. I'd rather not pay for travel expenses.

And I personally don't think scrimping on design is a good idea, first impressions are important. I think you could get a nice looking site for 300-500. It's what I'd quote anyway.

I'd definitely sign up to google places asap, but you will only show up for the area close to your address. If you wanted to show up for other locations, ie London - you'd need a London business address.

I do totally agree with you and think the Mobile Disco keyword and being first is probably a golden turd but you know when you set yourself a goal and thats what you want to achieve I am in that mentality now and I wont be beaten

I know if I was searching for a mobile disco it would be mobile disco preston or mobile dj preston or djs in preston or wedding dj preston.. for sure.. which is what the internal landing pages are all designed to do..

I have not scrimped on the website It was free I have done it myself 500 is not alot of money for sure BUT.. When Djing brings me in about 1000-1200 a month at the moment.. I still have bills to pay and I think a priority before this is to get a decent video camera and integrate youtube so people can see what they are buying before they buy it which I think will increase business by at least 100%. then with the next lot of cash do a redesign of the website if needbe. Every visitor is visiting more than one page so the structure of the site and design must be ok for my bounce rate to be <30%.

Its about priorities the site is getting hits, I am getting phone calls, I am booking discos, The site is only new so booking dates for well in advance so not seeing the benefits till I get paid from those jobs and I know that by December I will have had 5/6 confirmed jobs a month (in addition to the current referral gigs too) and will hit my finance target to SPEND SPEND SPEND..

I do work with alot of Singers who are hired nationwide and they earn 4 times what I do and people are quite happy to spend the money on them.. (they dont call it expenses just charge an extra 200 than you would normally expect to pay from a local) So I tried to do it fairer where by you get the basic rate if your local. If your farther afield it will cost you the same as a national entertainer. But I am still priced higher than most of the local dj's because If I was priced at their rates it would have to be a full time job earning 1000 a month and I might as well work at mcdonalds if I was earning that little.

Add the names of 6 local towns/suburbs you WANT to do business in to your INDEX page. Time is money and the _closer_ gigs are to home, the more profitable your gigs will be.

I'd REARRANGE the paragraphs on your Index page. Insurance and PAT Testing are NOT the #1 and #2 things that will get you customers. Move those to the bottom. Put Music Styles #1, DJ Ethics #2, Perhaps change Work Attire to 'Neat and Professional' at #3.

I think those internal landing pages need some work man, they've been written purely from the perspective of fitting keywords into them. Hi I'm DJ bolton, your bolton dj, djing around bolton for many years. To any customers reading that - hardly what they want to see as it's not useful in the slightest.

I'd work on improving the design and getting a clear call to action in there. Rather than worrying about ranking number 1.
