Without detailed explanation what you have done in last 6-12 month minimum, it would be really hard to even a guess.
Actually I have not done major changes in this month(June 2017) for that website. Still the views got decreased by such a large number so I was worried. Now how will I identify what is wrong in this case?

OkayI will work on content. I also noticed in the cpanel awstats that for the same website highslide/graphics/zoomout.cur file is getting more hits than my website's index page. This is not correct right?

If you traffic just for ranking. you can use tools or tricks. there are many tricks to increase traffic.
Check google analytics or GTM ?
according to me you should publish high quality content and create high quality links for better performance
Implement quality SEO techniques such as blogging, forum posts, press release submission, article submission etc to increase website views per day.
You can post fresh content on your website to keep it up to dated, and also update the previous posts if possible, improve quality of content then you will start watching improvements in the number of views of your website. Add multimedia for example images and videos in the articles and you can also share your new posts on social networks like facebook, twitter, pinterest to attract the potential customers. It can help in getting more views.
