Do you have a routine you follow when submitting to directories and search engines?

I recently read in my study notes that it is a good idea to have your site listed in directories before you submit to search engines. They say if you do this, then you might not even have to submit your site to SE's, because they will find your links through these directories and may even boost your reputation and get you a higher ranking.

I'm curious, which do you do first? SE submission or directory submissions?

I haven't done a direct search engine submission for years. Wordpress shouts to the world that it is there. If you run a static site through the website submitter it will be found. If you have Adsense on a page Google will know the first time a page is opened.

hmmm, ok. I guess then you proved the theory SE submissions aren't so big anymore, I guess. I must admit, its not only good to learn about this, but in a way its good to see that what I am learning is in right. It shows I'm going in the right direction at least
