Bots or users? Which counts the most?

Google comes up with numerous updates and algorithms each year. We follow them religiously and strive to please the giant. What do you think is the real purpose of all this activity. Is it more important to satisfy the users or Google's bots? Which helps the most in terms of SEO?

Users of cause. traffic wise I think Google loosing it's battle to other Social media and network sites. This is why even Google has to try all these stuff like Google+ etc.

Both are very important. If you go and impress users, the bots will also be impressed most probably, but if you try to impress bots while neglecting users then be ready to get penalties for your spammy efforts.

Well said. But even though some e-commerce websites are so unfriendly that a user would not want to go back. I think they have a mixed up cause for building it.

Google is trying to promote its google+ but it will not be able to defeat the other popular social media websites. After all, you need traffic to make a social media site live and Google+ is soo un-populated. Almost all of us has a Google+ account, but I have seen most people neglect it and keep indulged in FB, Twitter, Linkedin and other such sites.

Yeah. Penalties do happen, but there are not too many cases where bots are impressed on a steady pace. I think a lot of website owners are trying to impress the bots (or they are being suided in such way). They keep forgetting that the user has to feel comfortable while visiting the site. Every empty space is filled with an Ad. This drives me crazy and I think other people too would be annoyed by it.

Well I only click Google+ button to get those social signs I guess most of other webmasters do it for same reason. Also unlike in old days creating a site for users is fine because search engines are smarter than old days.
