Link to root domain or product pages for ecommerce site?

    Hi all,

I have an ecommerce site with product pages already ranking for some terms. I haven't done much backlinking to the site and want to get started - its around 3 months old.

Do you recommend I target the product pages or the root domain (no keyword - just my store name) for the backlinks?

Also the IM Wikis and IM bookmarks safe for a 3 month old site and should I target specific pages or the root domain?

    Please let me know!

    Kind Regards

    You should do both.
I will put it this way, if you want to rank for your main keyword/s or brand name, you will build links towards your root domain,
if you want to rank for each individual product you will build links to your product pages.
Yes you can use bookmarks and wikis, bookmarks are fine links, but wikis are some serious stuff,
these two combined + some other link building techniques can give some great results.

That's one of the shortest but better explanations I've seen when discussion this topic. I'll have to swipe the simplicity from that

Get some quality backlinks for your domain and work on the metadata for your products. Since yours is an e-commerce website, good domain reputation and proper metadata for your product page will bring them on ranks.

If you have many products it's probably best to build links to your category pages too - these will then pass link juice direct to your product pages.

I do not think you need any other suggestion after this suggestion, the administrator has mentioned it perfectly. Just go for this.
