    Amazon in Wordpress

    Hi all,

I'm currently looking at setting up a site in wordpress that primarily focuses on products in Amazon (specifcally fashion). But I don't actually have a clue where to begin!

I'd previously seen on here a turnkey site for sale where someone had set (i presume) an automated site bringing back a collection of products from Amazon - which would be ideal for me.

Just wondering for those that have already created/used this type of site:
    • Was it successful?
    • Was Google ok with it?
    • What modules / theme did you use?
    • Did you get the site from somewhere? If so, where?
    • Any other useful tips?

    Cheers,

    Lee

There was a site like this in the review section: http://www.imtalk.org/f41/8489-pleas...erce-site.html

If you view page source you can find a basis for search if the site is something you may be interested in. It is an Amazon affiliate site.

Thanks wink0r, that's really useful. Do you know if these are heavily penalised by Google for dupe content?

I don't have direct experience so I have no real input about that. My thoughts on the subject are that it would be hard to differentiate a site of this kind without some extra work. When a script pulls content to your site it will be duplicate, without doubt. If the process is automated there will be little difference from other sites using the same script and keywords. I suspect that search traffic would be hard to get but there are other promotional methods that may drive some traffic. Pinterest is reputed to do well with fashion.

Yeh - pretty much. I'm very big to buying domains at the min, and I always see ones come up that would be great to buy but would be even better having some kind of automated feed from amazon for a specific category. For example, let's say something came up like topbabyclothes.com or something like that. Instead of having to write about the content and adding in a shabby amazon affiliate widget, it would be awesome to bring back product description, reviews etc etc Obviously there'd be space for articles in there generally talking about baby clothes BUT I imagine the main sales would be derived from automated full content like that, rather than snippets in an article.

I've had a look at it seems that WP Robot is the best solution out there are the moment (with integration to a variety of other platforms if required like YouTube, Clickbank etc) My only concern is whether using tools like these, how hard Google can come down on you for! But maybe with a combination of articles and automated content, Google might be ok with it?

I think that the bigger hurdle to overcome is Google's stand against thin affiliate sites. I think that the days of set it and forget it are past. I suspect that Google search traffic will need to be attracted by regular quality content posts. That could be outsourced, but would still require more attention than in the past.

As far as the duplicate content issue I have an article directory site that pulls syndicated content (read duplicate content). It is well indexed by Google (including categories and tags), but off course, the pages do not rank well with Google. I see search traffic mostly from Yandex to the site. The fact that a larger number of pages are shown as indexed than the number of actual articles on the site indicates to me that Google is not likely to de-index a site just because the same content appears on multiple other sites. They may not send much traffic without some extra effort, but they will keep indexing the new pages.

Agreed, it's probably becoming more and more critical to keep an eye on SERPs for websites and ensure that if there are natural drops in the rank, then add more content etc. Obviously depending on the quality of the content and the niche of the website, there would be some cases where rankings wouldn't be affected by regular posts, but I see what you're saying.

That's a fair statement - but then you could argue without a decent ranking for these pages, what's the point of being indexed for the relatively small traffic you'll receive? May I ask, do you do anything to actively promote some of these pages that are dupe content or are they just to bulk up your site?

The point of the paragraph was that even with Google's current standards having a property that has content found elsewhere on the web is not a cause for de-indexing. While they may not rank the site or content highly they seem unlikely to put the site under penalty.

I don't spend time promoting the site and question weather there would be significant value in doing so, but the site does pay the rent (domain name service and hosting) from the occasional click so while it is not really a profit center at least it is not a cost center. It takes only a couple of minutes a day to maintain the site and I see it as a value for the data it provides.

Thanks cezars, I had seen that link myself but it still required an actual autobot.

So today I've purchased WP Robot and looking forward to taking it for a spin. I've noticed that they have a rewritter section that allows content to be re-written to make it seem more unique - if anyone's used WP Robot and/or purchased a re-writter account, did this help with your SERPs? I'd be tempted to purchase but think it'd be really useful to know how much of a difference it makes first.

Lee I heard the latest penguin update is targeting spun content. Make sure all content is readable for human eye.

I wanted to use this purely for Amazon, and in a way it wouldn't have been duplicate content, just syndicated. In reality I think Google would see this as a problem, but in practice you'd have thought this would be ok being as though you're bringing a collection of content to a user and it's adding value.

Having said that, I've actually just cancelled my WP Robot order and asked for a refund.

Thanks for the input bluearrow, I think that's another validation for me having cancelled my order.

You are welcome Lee. Google seems getting more and more focus on content. I have just posted another topic about Latest Google algo update which targets low quality " exact match " domains. making mini sites for Amazon maybe no longer gonna be profitable ( I have bunch of these).

I would like give an alternate solution to this issue.

As most of us would agree that Google do not like duplicate content. So if you build amazon sites on wordpress you can not expect decent traffic from Google. Although you could find other alternative sources of traffic, and there are many if you search well !
Rank on Google ** Buy PBN Backlinks **[Low OBL |Premium Quality]
