I am a Google network affiliate. A nice point is that affiliate income gets lumped in with adsense income and helps with the payment threshold. A good percentage of the merchants have a build your own link option that allows you to deep link to the pages on their site. Use a text link and take your visitor right to the product page, that will help with conversions. If you are interested in banners hover over the banner icon and it will expand to show the whole icon. I like the UI better than several of the other affiliate networks that I use. My first affiliate sale was through the Google network.
I remember that my application for the adsense program was approved just like that a few years ago. Now it takes years for the applications to be approved!!

An affiliate website can be seen as a middle-man which is diverting web-traffic to a particular location. But instead of blindly paying for clicks the advertiser only pays when the visitor buys something. This is also known as Cost Per Action (CPA) advertising or performance-driven advertising.

An affiliate network, on the other hand, is an aggregator of affiliate programs. There are many affiliate networks like Commission Junction, ShareASale, LinkShare, and now Google. They are the sites to which you go to find affiliate programs. Affiliate networks also provide tracking for your links and handle payments. This means that payments from all of your affiliate partners using the network are aggregated to meet the payment threshold. Google adds your affiliate income to your AdSense checks. An affiliate network
If you look around on a site, usually near the bottom of the home page, you will often see a link to a page for affiliates if the site has an affiliate program. If they use one of the affiliate networks there will be a link to their sign-up page with the network.
