Thread: Do you stalk your competitor?

Do you stalk your competitor? and if yes for what reason,
to get background profile of backlink?
to get some idea to make some content?
or even to get some ideas how to design your site?

mine, is to get some ideas to make some content, but i wrote my own way, not copied content!

The only real work I do about my competitors is the initial backlink check. After that, I'm not too bothered. I do keep an eye out for any promotions or "specials" though. Other thatn that, I really have very little time to watch their every move.

Seo is changing day by day, so many of peoples learning and testing and discovering how to google algorithm works, and how to manipulate them.

Always. Good to know what they rest of the market is doing as well.

I always try to find as much out about my competitors as possible, some just check backlinks but I do any of the following -

> what keywords are they trying to rank for?
> who links to them?
> how are they monetizing their site?
> what social networks are they focussing on?
> how are they marketing themselves and their brand?
> what value are they giving their readers that I could improve upon (basically look at what they offer, and go a step further and add even more value)

Generally these are the things I look for most of the time, some are pretty difficult because there's only so much you can find out.

Yeah, i look for keywords they are ranking for and what prices or offers they list to be competitive.

Not always but sometimes to know the good strategies they follow for the ranking and links.

I only analyse my competitor about their backlinks that from where they are getting backlinks and these links are do-follow or no-follow and can i get links from these sites or not.

Of course.. That's my strategy to stay on the game..

Nah, I mean I check up on them, but I mostly focus on what I need to do.

I do "spy" on my competition for one simple reason: ITS KEYWORDS!!

I grab their keywords and make EMD sites (so I rank them very fast)

Let say I want to find a profitable keyword in the "dog training" niche and I can't find something profitable in the Google keyword tool, then this is what I do

1) I type some general terms related to my niche into Google
2) Copy the url's of the 10 first spots in the SERPs
3) Use SEMrush to see their keywords =)

How easy is that??? They do all the work and you just come and grab the keywords they are getting more of their traffic from.

Sometimes I even feel bad for using this techinique but well... I deal with it while cashing out my commissions =)

That is stealing

Main reason why I'm 'stalking' my competitors is see there backlinks and the quality if the links.

Same goes with me. I have enough trouble competing with my own stats. Monitoring my competitors stats can be too stressful

I've been stalked, and have found my content copied by competitors - they also try to copy the links, but I make it hard for them :-)

I'm stalked and copied on regular basis, but I don't' have time to spy on my competitors.

Yes, I do stalk my competitors for the following reasons:

1. To understand their new features..
2. Ofcourse to check out their web design...
3. To see how are they promoting their websites..

I never stalk my competitors. Its better to think about what your consumer needs than thinking about what your competitors are doing.

I definitely analyse what they're doing. I'm always checking the SERPs im in, all the way down to top 20. I keep tabs on their ranking positions. What they're doing in regards to link building etc.. To be successful in SEO in the long run you need to have as much data as possible.
