Building your own team or outsourcing?

As your business growing time by time, you can’t work alone to support your business. You will need other people to do some of time-wasting job (Ex: SEO off page) so you can put more concentration more important task. If this happen, which is your choice between building your own team and outsourcing? Share your choice here.

For me I prefer building my own team because I have more control to their activity. It is also feel more like family than the relationship between boss and employer. More importantly, I can provide the commission with a monthly salary system which can be cheaper than buying outsourcer service.

    I'd have to agree, but...

To start, outsourcing is a lot cheaper.
If you're starting to build your own team you'll want them to stay with you and perform optimally.
Meaning you'd have to compensate for their efforts and it will cost a bit more.
The same as with prospects, you'll have to overdeliver in compensation to keep them motivated to work for you.

I'm a bit confused as to why you thought outsourcing is the more expensive option. Because of that, I'm going to assume that you were talking about outsourcing your resources in the two options you mentioned: hiring offshore workers directly (building your own team) or working with a business outsourcing agency.

The second option is certainly more expensive than hiring offshore workers on your own. However, there are a lot of benefits you can get with working with an agency. It may cost you a little more but you are ensured that the workers they provide for you are highly-qualified, skilled and competent. Most agencies only hire graduates of top universities with good English skills and that's a plus. Also, even if you can't see your "staff" directly, you are ensured that they are using your time productively because someone is supervising them in their country.

    I see it this way:

If you need some articles written, forum or blogposts done or something else not to complicated, you can fid very cheap outsourcing deals on for example ODesk.com.
The more important stuff, like support, sales copy writers, graphics design, content creation for a product or membership program, report (ebooks) creation, etc., meaning the more crucial and important stuff, you'd be better off with your own team of people you trust. Just keep doing the tasks you like to do or you know you'll do exactly how you want it done yourself. Find specific tasks you can or need to outsource and determine how you want to outsource these tasks.

Personally I would never work with an agency, because you never know who's doing the job and the risk it's not done to your satisfaction is quite big. I always contact people personally, who already have a reasonable reputation for their skills or just people I know and are good at something I need done. My business isn't as big yet to have employees, but once that's the case I will choose them carefully and pay them generously to keep everything 100% top quality.

Like you said, you would have more control and know what everyone's doing if you had your own team. Which is why I'd prefer going with a team first.. Maybe build up a good base with others around you and then outsource in the future?

I think it comes down to how much you can afford and where you are at in your seo knowledge, link building etc...

For me I could not afford to have a team right now. I have been outsourcing and trying to find the best people for each task I need done. When I do get to a level of making x,xxx monthly or whatever is needed, then I would consider assembling a team.

It's so hard to find good help these days, which is why I prefer to build a team rather than starting from square one everytime I need help with something. It you find someone good and take the time to train them to do a job - then just like in the offline world, it makes sense to keep them. Treat them fair, pay them fair and they will become part of your team and loyal to you.

My friend just build his team. He pay $100 for 500 Words x 100 articles, it's so contrast when compared to buy articles from content writer service.
Normally, for 100 x 500 Words Article we pay about $2.5/each, which mean there is $150 in difference.
It's burn my spirit to build my own team immediately
