Search engines rankings are the best source of traffic. I would say try to target keywords and keep creating fresh content. Also add share buttons if you write great content people will share it and it will go viral!

The best 2 ways are seo and forum marketing.

The real question is who are that fans, if they from services like "like me and I will like you back" then it is not worth much in terms of traffic and ROI.

I agree there is people that sell targeted fans out there they cost more but worth it.

The best way to get tones of free traffic is seo and digg.com both you can get thousands of vistors a month.

here is another option, if your site is a forum, just make lot of threads. Thats enough to get traffic without doing any SEO

Can you help me in making some in my forum ? I am not getting traffic. And the traffic which i get are mostly spammers.

Aim for the top position of Google is the best way to getting more traffic without spending not too much money. I'm sure you know what to do. It's SEO, as other members already said.
One more alternative from me is to make a contest with sponsor. People love prize and they will comes to your website.

yea, some fans are just useless. But there are some fan pages with active fans, need to buy that kinda page ))

dude simply make more threads with some quality. Automatically they will rank well and when you have about 5000 threads, you will be getting 500 + UV a day. We had a forum before. It had about 1000 threads and we got 100 - 150 + UV a day. If u had a travel related forum, 100% I had to help you.

If and when you have built up a good following of people that respect and like what you have to say, THEN you could market to them.

Email lists of people interested in a newsletter.
Website
Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, Digg, etc. (in order to let them know about the updates).
Integrate all social networking/bookmarking together.
Add social networking buttons to your websites.
Etc, etc.

yes, se traffic is the most important and you can keep exapnding because just add new keywords

Yeah, seach engine traffic really matters.
All other traffic sellers are junk.
Social networking traffic is also good, but se traffic is the best.
