Its a simple question really, but as IM's, SEO's business people, which is more important to you and, of course, why?

That's a very good question and I bet most (especially starting) internet marketers don't have a clear answer for it.
We all want to make money online...that's why we've all started this difficult journey, but...
To be able to make money online you need credibility (reputation).
To build credibility you'll need a load of different skills (communicating to your prospects, expert mindset, etc.).
Hmmm...

It's almost like a catch 22 situation because you cannot have one without the other. It's an interesting question for sure. if I had to answer it for myself? I'd say reputation. Money has never really been important to me, so I would rather work on my reputation and be known as a person that gets the job done, gets results and takes care of her clients.

I would say skill with optional experience is what starts it and keeps you going and then you can have that AHA moments when new idea is born in your head.
Then without hard work all is lost, there wouldn't be reputation and money, you need to work hard and then some more
When reputation and money come, then you can speed up the process hiring some skilled staff and build your rep even more and round we go

I think in the end, money would be 90%+ of everyone's goal. In order to get there, I think you need either great skill OR reputation, but not necessarily both. You can be anonymous and behind the scenes and monetize without anyone knowing who you are. Or you can build reputation and make money by earning people's trust.
I can vouch for those AHA moments. Its all linked yes, skill linked to reputation which is then linked to money and recognition, and you are right, it takes a lot of work and dedication to get to the point where you can hire your own team and then reap the rewards of it all. I would also add another aspect, belief. If you don't believe in what you are marketing, then it really isn't worth the time and effort you put into your marketing campaign.
Very true, and I think for everyone its going to be different.

I think skill is everything! 'Cause it brings both money and reputation!
Money... when you do have money, you can develop your skill by attending course, buying ebook, after you got knowledge it is time to build reputation. However it depend on you utilize your skill and money, if you have skill you can generate more money and build up reputation
hmmm, not always. My training, and a good deal of my skill cost virtually nothing. I think as well, that econtinue has spoken a lot about this, but some IM's love writing ebooks selling them off and doing so merely to make a profit without really teaching anyone anything. One needs to be really careful when buying ebooks etc, in case you waste money on something that won't benefit you at all.
That being said there are a lot of IM professionals out there that give freely of their own skill for us to learn from. You just have to know which are the right ones.

i agreed with you phoenyx.. beside now the information widely spread over the net... all you need just determination to study and make analysis of information... some people just like want to be 'spoon feed' person... everything just want easy and directly info
For me, skill is at first step. It is very easy, once you have skilled( which off course come with lots of hard working and devotion) then you can earn reputation by helping others and providing quality services. And when you are professionally skilled with good reputation, then earning money must not be an issue. Why people buy expensive products from Apple because they have reputation of providing world class products? Why people trust on Google Products, because they Google have reputation of the best in its applicable fields. So for me, you must be skilled to get reputation and earn money.
Hi,
Obviously your reputation is the most important factor in any business field either it`s SEO or something else. But I would like to add one thing in it that your skills make your reputation. If you are perfect in your working than you can do the quality work according to customer demand and this thing makes you famous in your business field. You got my point?
At the moment, I find reputation is everything. You need to start building a name for yourself and only then, once you have a degree of respect can you start to attempt to make money.
However that may not be for everyone - different methods require different things.
However in order to build up reputation you need time and also money.... Without money is so hard to build up reputation... not an easy way i thought.
Once again, not always. You could build on your reputation and skill before giving out a single penny. lol Look at the members here on IMT, for example. Everyone here is building a reputation for themselves and showing their skill levels, and it costs them virtually nothing. Time, mainly. Taking the time to help out, talk to people, give them advice when they are stuck with something, offering a service, especially if that service gets a review, is all going towards their online reputation.

you are misunderstood me, actually i am agreed with your statement.. but what i mean time versus money is important... lets say if your spend so much time to build your reputation... you need money to survive.. eat, drink, electricity bill, internet bill.. that all cost money... that what i mean... the longer you build reputation, the more money you need to survive
Ahhh, that is also true. It is important to have a stream of money coming in while you're working on your reputation and skill. It's also good to have that idea in our plans. When you sit down and decide what it is you want to do, you need to factor that into the equation, or it might make your reputation burn before it should. Great point, sorry for the misunderstanding

The most important for me is persistence. Just Do It and Keep Doing it.
Absolutely. Its one of the main reasons why IM's leave and decide to do other jobs. You need to be able to take advantage of good times, and know that, when things are going badly, it rarely lasts long, and that there is always something you can do about it. Then you pick yourself up, dust yourself and your campaign off, chalk it up to a learning curve and go past it knowing better.

I'd say persistance is important to succeed, but if you put a lot of effort in the wrong things you won't get anywhere.
So yes, keep doing it and keep learning how to do it better...leading to more skills, leading to more experience, leading to more credibility.
