    JOB or SELF OWNED BUSINESS?

Yes, what would you prefer? JOB or SELF OWNED BUSINESS?
Its also true that you can't be Owner from the first day of the internet marketing, else you have thousands of dollars to invest but again you can earn money without having knowledge..

Which one do you think, is suitable for you and why?

Self owned business : You need to think from A to Z, everything on your own.. if you don't work, you won't get any money, if you are lazy, you are nothing

I think I would rather prefer having a Job. I may be working as a freelancer, but it still feels like a job because my company is the only one I work for. I would be too scared to start my own company / business simply because of the risk involved. I kinda feel better knowing that someone else can find a use for my skills, but at the same time do not feel safe enough to go it alone.

The whole reason why I started my own businesses is the world of pretending and burocracy that comes with a regular job. I never had a job where I was doing the work I wanted to do or where I was happy or even satisfied. I was simply tired of cleaning up other people's messes and putting out fires because so many don't do their jobs as they're supposed to. Also in these "crisis" times no one is sure about his or her job anymore. I for one wouldn't take job to be sure of income, simply because where I come from it's just not a sure thing.

It's not easy to find the job for you, where they actually want you for your skills and use these for the business' or department's benefit.

Since I've started my own business I feel really good, because now I know what I'm doing it all for. At least not for some snob manager who doesn't have a clue...
I like what I'm doing and I do it all for myself.

If you have a job now keep it, drop it only when you can fully sustain your standards and have some left over.

I prefer working my own. I'm not good at working under others.

Also when you work your own you can set your own goals and reach those by your own time. No one to push you or stress you. Also you get all result for your self for all your hard work.

For me SELF OWNED BUSINESS all the way... and preferably internet business
I can't imagine going to work anymore,
I think if I need to go to work some day, I would shoot myself in the foot

There are so many advantages for self owned business that I can really stress enough.
I have been self employed for about 1.5 year now and I'm sorry that I didn't do it sooner.
To all people thinking of quitting their jobs, do it as soon as possible, you will thank me later
If you are person who likes to work, then you have nothing to worry about, you will find the work trust me,
but if you are person who likes to avoid work at all cost, then stick to your 9-5 job and pray to God you don't loose it,
because you will never succeed in the IM world.

I personally love the fact that I can keep my fixed job and earn a fixed salary (gives you great peace of mind) and then earn extra using internet marketing. Thats the way that I see it, its too stressful to know that if a website looses rank you may not be able to put food on the table lol

Yeah, this is something that scares me too about IM... depending too much on big G. This is why we need to have a diversified portfolio of income sources and not depend totally on search traffic.

If marketers think they are dependant on the big G, then they WILL depend on the big G and focus on everything to keep up with google and website ranking.

SEO is (in my opinion) an extra tool for your business...if you're actually running one or if you want to build one. The top online entrepreneurs don't do a lot of SEO and most of their traffic does NOT come from search engines.

You have everything you do in your own hands and instead of learning all the SEO tricks and marketing methods you could use your time on building a solid foundation for a solid online business. No guru got rich from article marketing or building backlinks...believe me. SEO is a later stage and will be a lot easier when you already get the traffic.

What surprises me is that people who are starting internet marketing or "making money online" start off the wrong way. I've mentioned it before in another thread: first you have to figure out WHAT you want to do and what your business should look like. Then you can start learning the HOW. In most cases people lose focus and learn a lot of things they don't even need once they know WHAT they're going to do exactly.

I've seen some posts where people ask how to do adsense, without knowing what specific market they will approach and really....you need a LOT of traffic to make a decent income from adsense...from dozens of websites. I'm doing some adsense on the side now, because I have the time for thorough research and writing quality content ( I now have only 5 adsense sites online and they pay a few hundred bucks a month).

What I'm trying to say is...you don't have to depend on google. Find a sub niche with a specific need or desire, create your own product (and a back end product or service) and make it better than what's already there. Make sure you overdeliver. Then put your efforts into finding affiliates and partners...there's your initial traffic and most likely a bunch of sales quite quick. Yes, you'd have to do quite some work, but how much time have most internet marketers wasted on learning all the techniques and are now frustrated, because they don't see results...? I'll tell you why...they start random marketing, running blind and probably in the wrong niche.

Creating an income from internet isn't easy anymore. However, the more effort you put into building a solid business, the less time you need for SEO (coz you can probably outsource it after a few months), the more time you'll have for everything you like to do...which is NOT SEO for most marketers... :-)
I won't go into details here, because then I'd be writing all week...

Success doesn't depend on marketing and cerytainly not the big G. It depends on your market and what you want to offer them.
Marketing is merely a tool to get more exposure.

Was this post actually still relevant...? Hm...
Anyway...I've said what I think all starting or mediocre internet marketers should know.

    Not always true, econtinue.

There are a *huge* number of businesses that spend years building up a product, only to find out they can't sell it. Build the minimal amount necessary, start selling it. Repeat and rinse as quickly as you can, making it a little better each time. Some people like programming, so they program their hearts out. Making this amazing product, but they have *zero* social skills for selling. So they spend a year building this thing, only to find they're missing a major aspect.

I also like to go after the weakest link. Can I make the product? check! Can I make a website for it? Check! Can I get traffic there? Uh oh... lets do a bit of that first. Do I know what people want exactly? Uh, maybe I should do some extra research.

In fact I would say, for most of the people here, create an affiliate site, SEO it, get the the traffic and THEN look at ways of improving it. Can you buy the product and sell it yourself? Can you make your own competing service, now that you have the traffic and you know people are buying?

That's the problem for most starting internet marketers...get traffic. So their focus is too much on the learning all the techniques instead of building a foundation for a business.

Also, if you do proper research in a market and there's a specific need or desire (in most cases this is in a subniche), you can develop a product that they WILL buy. If you need years to develop a product (information product or service) you're probably too late and there will be better alternatives. Internet marketing and selling information products online is all about momentum. The NOW. If you're not on top of it and act right away you already lost momentum and your product will most likely flop. It doesn't have to be an expensive product and you don't need to make loads of profits on it, but you'll be able to develop better products in less time when you're able to outsource certain tasks. Just starting "affiliate marketing" leaves most starters in the dark, because of the "must do" and "don't" information they get thrown at them.

One product usually doesn't cut it though. You'll need to offer more options. No one buys the first offer they get in front of them. They'll buy if they're convinced you're offering exactly what they need, after comparing a lot of similar products. There will always be competition and that's why momentum is crucial in online marketing. But...if prospects in your market have already read free content you offered as a gift, where you show your strong opinion and the general idea that you stand for (that's why you need to know your market very well), you'll build credibility and they WILL buy. It's jsut that visitors who come from a search engine will most likely NOT buy from you, because they're brwosing for information. I think you're lucky to make a hand full of sales from thousands of visitors that come from search engines. Imagine how long you'd need to get that kind of traffic. That could take months or even years. I recommend to find partners in your niche to work with by offering them something they need in return. Your product or free report will be promoted to a great number of prospects who are already warmed up. :-) You initial traffic is very important, also because it motivates you even more when you see the results. In the health niche I just bought a solo ad from a big dude in that market and got tons of sales from it. Yes, the solo cast me 200 bucks, but I got so much more in return, so I could build on that and grow my online business fast and take on more projects...meaning even more profits. I started on SEO later, because I felt I was losing too much time on it.

You can work a lot faster and keep momentum if you think through exactly what you want to do, build the foundation (even for affiliate promotional sites) and set goals. Otherwise you'll be working randomly without a general idea and your successpotential drops.

As I mentioned in another thread already, it's not particularly wise to build a business around a product. You build a business around a specific market and then develop an appropriate product of which you should already know it will sell, because the market is more or less asking for it.

I get your point pkennedy, but I hope I have explained correctly what I mean.

Having a job is quite safe. You have all the benefits and you can survive. To be honest, the people that leave their jobs to pursue IM without earning enough to sustain their current lifestyle are silly and soon end up quitting, I find.

However, there is something special about being your own boss. I personally love it. i'm at University at the moment so this is just extra pocket money for me. There are so many advantages, however the risk involved is quite high.

If you can juggle both you're in a good, stable situation and I think thats for the best. I see it as an experiment and if it takes off - great. If it's earning you enough to quit your job and you can scale it, more power to you. You probably deserve it!

Both has its own merits and disadvantages. It's all about where we are comfortable and finds self satisfaction. Work is a pleasure if you love your work whatever it is job or business. But if you compair their security, then Job is a secure per month earning but business alway's on risk.
