You can make somewhere from 100k to none. It depends on how hard you work and if you get luckly. It is all about info a selling stuff.
I agree, you get out of it, what you put into it. Find a program that suits you, work hard and you will earn. Keep open minded about new techniques as well
Every thing depends on your method and understanding of how to apply that method. One should be able to replace their income within a year or two. However, most all people utterly fail at Internet Marketing. Few succeed.

all i can say is the sky is the limit. all depend on your hardwork , dedication , consistency and your passion
A better question might be "What can you earn in your SECOND year of internet marketing?" -- because with few exceptions, Google won't let your new site show it's true medium and long-tail power for many, many months on end.
There are some exceptions: Totally UNDERSERVED niches easy to get traction in, or EMERGING niches where the true competitors are struggling as much as you to KEEP their site ranking as more and more jump onboard. You can't always foresee these, but once in awhile you can hit a niche that jumps out of the gate, makes money from the get go and traffic just stays strong.
That first year is usually painful - and earnings erratic. Trust and Authority is getting MUCH harder to come by, and a ton of kraplinks thrown at young sites is often like building a table with only one leg.
Method aside, this will also depend largely on how much time and effort you are putting into it and how efficiently you work.
You can put in 40 hrs a week, but if you aren't efficient or extremely productive you won't do much. Or you can put in 2 hours a day and get a lot of stuff done, build a team that helps you do monotonous tasks and you'd work even faster.
Certainly the competition is growing day by day. Without improvement in efficiency of work, nothing could be achieved. So lot of effort is needed to earn more than the previous year.
There are lots of factors involved. It all depends upon your hard work, time spent, quality and usefulness of your work for users, strategy followed, your niche and last but not the least one's luck is very important in all that.
Except hard work, you need to understand the technology also, you need to understand internet community if you want to earn from it, it is not necessary that you would have website then you would earn, you can earn without website as well.
My personal best was $380k one year.

In my opinion you need a certain amount of basic business knowledge in order to succeed with any kind of online business. Most starting internet marketers will just sign up for a bunch of affiliate programs and start random marketing. Then they will find every "hot marketing method" they can find, subscribe to many top marketers mailing lists to get tips, etc..
The biggest mistake you can make is to try and learn HOW to to do everything before you even know exactly WHAT you want to do and what you want your business to look like. There's no guru out there who bought a "push button make me rich" product and became successful from it. They've all built a real business, which can take up to a few months to a few years if you have to find out everything for yourself. Most top marketers have been working very hard for one or more years before they became so successful.
For a successful business you need real strategies and processes in place, do a lot of research about the market you want to conquer, etc.. No one is going to give or sell you success. There's no such thing as "ready made for you" businesses. Be careful with what you believe and what you buy.
Just my 2 cents.

Wow, $380K, it is really great money, what methods are you suing, just this forum or something else?
380K per year... that's amazing. A lot of dedication I see. Thanks to IM I can pay for all my bills, trips etc and still have some left over. How much you will make only depends on you and some on luck.
At this time i make 2,5 - 3k every month. I will work much harder to grow up this :-)
The question is sort of pointless as it depends where in the world you are. Salaries for every type of job vary the world over.

Last year I earned 800-900 USD per month now looking for more.
I'm a special case as I have spent the past 15 years building a network of partners on the internet. My case is very very very uncommon and I wish I could write a how to guide, but feel that 95% of my success is due to luck.
