The Most Effective Time Management Technique Ever

I love reading time management and productivity books. Thereís something about getting more done in less time that gets me excited. Every time I find a new tool or technique that can help me get things done faster, my day gets so much better!

Last week, during a very fruitful meditation session, I came up with an idea to boost my productivity and I decided to test it for a whole week before getting too excited about it. Well, I did test it and it worked GREAT! OK, enough suspense. Here it goes:

ďDo what you feel like doing.Ē

ďWhat? Are you serious? What are you talking about?Ē Iím talking about listening to yourself. Sometimes youíre in the mood to talk to people. Great! Pick up the phone and call a few prospects. Meet a potential partner for lunch. If you feel like writing, blog. If youíre tired, rest. When you have energy again and feel like putting together that spreadsheet youíve been thinking about, do that.

    Why This Works

    Two reasons:

If youíre not excited about something, chances are you wonít do a good job at it. Think about it. What are your chances of closing a sale if youíre thinking, ďdamn, I have to call this guy again. I donít feel like talking to him at all!Ē?
When you do what you feel like, youíre happier. When youíre happier, you do things much better. Not to mention that being happier is by itself an awesome thing you can do for yourself.

Arenít I Being a Little NaÔve?

I donít think so. Iím not saying that you should never do something you donít feel like doing. Sometimes we have to. But Iíve found that this last week Iíve been more productive than Iíve ever been before. I wrote down a list of all my weekly priorities and worked on them in the order I felt like.

Give it a shot and let me know how this works out for you.

I actually do the same thing. I have a planner with me. Then' I'll take down everything I have to do in a day, in a week and in a month. So, in that case, it would remind me of all the things I needed to do that day, the people I need to meet and stuffs I have to finish.

It sounds simple, you I think that you bring up a great point.

I There is a relatively new buzz phrase in the corporate world that says, "A happy employee is a productive employee." I've been saying that for years. I used to practice that with my employees when I had a corporate job, and I saw a lot of success.

So, why wouldn't that work for your own business. You are your own employee, so you have to keep you happy. It makes great sense. I will keep that in mind. Thanks for some great food for thought.

I definitely agree with that. "A happy employee is a productive employee." You really know when a person loves what he's doing. Because he's happy and it shows.

Well, it looks to be too much simple but I don't think that it works all the time as during job, one has to do one's tasks and other stuff even if one may don't want to do that work at that time. So, what one has to do in such a situation??

Well, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Sometimes time constraints prohibit you from choosing what to do. Sometimes you have to finish a specific duty before a deadline, so you just have to grit your teeth and do it.

However, when you own your own business, you often have 10 things you have to do all at the same time. I know I have a list of about 10 things that I need to do as soon as I can get to them. If you don't feel like doing one, do the other. You can also go take a break. and come back to do your tasks later. Writers do that often when they get "writers block."

It is just a matter of managing your time right, and knowing when to power through and you can relax.

I find it better to get the things that you DON'T want to do DONE FIRST.
That gets them out of the way so you can enjoy doing what you like doing more.

If I keep putting off the hard tasks they are always there nagging away at the back of my mind, therefore affecting my productivity.

Interesting tips. I'd half to only somewhat agree with this. What if you're a person who doesn't feel like doing anything all the time?

If someone is that type of person, then that person probably would not be very successful either way. Wouldn't you agree?

The time management technique which works best for me is to allocate time line for each task and I really enjoy working on my tasks not with respect to the completion but with respect to time allocation.
