IM strategies for a local site ?

If you have a local site or niche what are the best local Internet Marketing strategies to promote the site ?

Using a ccTLD helps a lot to rank in Google local search result. What other things we can do ?

Obvious, but be sure the location/region is in the keyword phrase and URL. A map may even help.

Good comedy: My offline business site was ranked ahead of all the local competitors in a city 450 miles/ 600 Km from my home base because I occasionally work an event there. I have a weather banner on my home page for that location. I also show in serps for other areas where there are weather banners even though I have never worked in my profession in those areas. Facebook is good but not for all sites. It works for niches about younger age groups and specially for news sites.

Ads in local forums and sites will work too.

yea, nothing is working good for everything. I think Facebook is better than local forums. If you target small number of people, maybe local forums are good.

Use of adwords can be good too.
But it might be expensive.
