Backlinks are more important, Because google considering backlinks. Coming to Do-follow & no-follow it is a tough thing to say

Backlinks are still important because one backlink can be considered as an upvote from one website to other;

I get both nofollow and dofollow to my website. I think it looks more natural to have both. Also, I try to find similar blogs I can comment on to get viewers themselves besides having a backlink. I focus on both backlinks and adding my link to places that will give me that backlink but also has real viewers that can read what I have to say and click on the link to visit my site. I actually think this is more important today. I am not interested in a quantity of backlinks rather I am looking for quality backlinks that also bring me traffic.

Both do and no follow helps in SEO but the key is to build them in right way that means they should be theme and topic relevant, avoiding rich anchor texts, bulk creations. We can try to use long tail keywords with mixup of call to actions etc...

Google loves natural and relative links. Links building is important because link building is source of traffic and it is very helpful to make a product viral

just do what you think is natural for your site. don't focus too much on the exact amount of no follows, just do what is natural and if it will help send referall traffic as well.

The ratio of do follow / no follow links you build matters only so your profile looks natural.

And lastly remember that it is up to the discretion of Google to how seriously they consider the no-follow tag in terms of ranking power. The Google-bot may not follow a link with the No-follow tag, but they still can determine where the link goes from the URL. So that information may be used at anytime in anyway by google to influence SERPS.

In my view heart is important for a human being to alive like wise back links will give the strength to your site and generate traffic so that your page will be found in search engines. So back links are very important for a website and it is considered by Google.

Without backlink, search engines will lost guide... just like tourists lost their guide...

I don't think you can achieve anything without backlinks. You need to build them in order to get traffic. It's only natural to have them.
