Facebook, the Big Brother is watching you ( not me) LOL

So, the question is, do you use Facebook for your work, never mind that you know that Facebook is the Data collector?

Myself are not using any part Facebook, because it is using Data against us. Now already and much more in future. so i dont care about the loss and traffic from Facebook. What you think about this?

I think most of the marketers are not concerned about Facebook collecting their data as long as it gives them good business. I myself never considered this fact until I read your thread. But I think there is nothing to hide from it because I don't share information that is too confidential.

Yes, a part from it you are right. But Facebook is collecting not only your Data when you open a account there, but it as well collect data on which website you are going. Facebook is tracking each one of us, which websites we are visiting... and this is not any more a joke for me. As well to know that the CIA is involved with Facebook and some Investors are as well involved which are working with Data profiles....
For example Amazon is buying Data from Facebook, thats not the only Company.... For myself this is not accept able and i am not using Facebook in any way, not even for my clients.

I never paid much attention to this side of the story. But if the big guns are getting involved and paying Facebook to sell such minute facts about its users then I think we should restrict our activities on it. It is a good source of information though, people share good stuff more freely on it and we too can easily get access to that news in an instant by being redirected to the post.

The CIA being involved and other security agencies buying information from it is a creepy fact. But people will keep on using it no matter how much you try to warn them. The public is just addicted to it and clients are nuts to have their fan pages being promoted on it. Clients have already been fed with stories (by SEO's and their blogs) of how much business potential social media has and especially Facebook, so they insist on using it for their business. If you try to teach them something out of the box, they just think that you are a swindler who is trying to earn easy money through them because you are not a professional.

Yes, so i decided not to take Facebook work from clients, ( till now and keep promise to my self) But i think for that all Data collecting things, the time will come most people will wake up, but then it is to late and they are in the Database of lot of companies. So i am trying to be out of that as long and good as possible.

People always wake up when its already too late. That is human nature, else why wake up at all? Since FB is enjoying unlimited traffic from every user of the internet, why not use it as a source to earn money from the agencies that matter? I believe military and agencies have always used popular sites to provide them data. But as far as SEO and SMM is concerned, there is nothing to be afraid of unless your client has given you a project that is classified.

Think of it, even Nemanja knows what you are thinking right now. He also has a good amount of your data with him based on your interests and fears.

Well every big site collect data not just Facebook. I think Google is the biggest and one collected most. But I don't think we can do much about it since we need these sites for our work and stuff.

It depends, everyone is free and have free decition ! It is all about the amount of people, huge amount-----huge power. In case a huge amount of people will not any more use from today google, but Yahoo, you will see how fast google is changing his way. Same with Facebook. So we cant say we have no choise, thats not right. We have it, and this day by day again.

Problem is do we want to take that choice or not. Like if you are a webmaster or doing IM then you need to use Google related applications and search no matter what is your opinion. Same about Facebook it's all about the what's new trend. Yahoo used to dominate everything years ago search, mail etc but they are now going down and down. There was MySpace now Facebook. All these do same stuff. and people know these too. It's same in life about everything. Coca Cola is one of most unhealthy stuff in the world. People know this but still do it. We all know green stuff are healthy but yet we eat all Junkfood.

Hahaha bluearrow I like your examples. Its true people use junk food. After all its is tastier than green food and that is why people eat it although they are aware that it is harmful.

Deadgum it Blue arrow, Im on a diet over here. Lol.
Great point about Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Myspace all very true. As far as the original question to the thread. I just opened a facebook account 2 weeks ago. It still creeps me out a little. My biggest concern is that some one will Hack facebook and send all my contacts crazy messages. As far as big brother goes. Man, I think we are so far into companies gathering Data that the future makes me cringe a little.

Also nothing we get for free. Google is a company with commercial goals. When we start using free stuff we don't even read their TOS most of the time. Even reading won't make much difference. Even without their own policies All these companies probably share data with US gov agencies.
