Thread: Working yourself or in a company?

Hi all,

i would like to ask around, how much people work for an company and who is working for himself and how was the first time as working for himself. Just to discuss a bit the start of a SEO person which works for himself... how easy/ hard was the first month to get clients, ect....

m working in software company not himself but i wounder it's very good experiance any one can start own but you must required creativity

thanks for your sharing, godspeedIT , i worked since 3 years now as own web designer, it was a good time, but at last now the prices which cleints are ready to pay are falling down... so thats why i am on the SEO way now, trying on my own company still....

when we starts to working for our self at that time first thing came in mind that wt bout seo of this and that lol !!

I am working in a company as well as some work for myself directly from some local clients. Continuing with SEO projects- bringing new clients and retaining them is really a big challenge. There are still business owners who dont know about SEO and if they know, they are impatient about getting results quickly.

I dont' like to work for a company, it is great fun with all the co-workers, but I really hate that whole concept from 9-5 and having stupid and mean people for bosses etc...
That is why I quit may very well paid day job 3+ years ago. It was one of the best decision in my life .
The day I quit and left the building, when I walkout out I could see blue sky and world around me was great,
I didnt' noticed that 15 minutes before or anytime I was working, really...some great and liberating feeling.
Yes, it is hard not just in first months, it is hard non stop, as any business with ups and downs, but you always need to be pushing and moving in right direction.
If you are person for steady job not like to take risks then I dont' recommend this,
but on the other hand if you don't like to sit in the office and be bossed around by ass kissers and to be free to do what ever you want the sure go for it you will not regret it.

Thanks for your detailed posting Nemanja! I can feel the very same, when i listen to you. Me too, was before working in a company, and than middle in Holiday i decidet not to come anymore to company to work. The decition was made!
During the last years i met the old worker friends several times, by shopping or just on the road, they was not believing that i am still working on my own. Some of them sayed in the beginning:" You will come back after some month..." (with a big smiling in they face)
What i could not agree, that working from 7-5 each day. sometimes even to 6 or 7 pm. And when i need short off, to make some important things, which i can make only make during local opening hours, i need to asked the old boss like a dog , for each taking off.
I agree with you fully, as working own, it is allways up and down. and allways learning, learning,learning. But for that we can decide lot of more things, even if we saw that it was a wrong way or deception, but next time we know it better. We getting experience which called " having the right smell in the nose" for the right moments.

In the past company, i hardly saw the daytime without stress. Just to take brake at lunch ect... Specialy here in Europe, when Winter is coming, you go out to work in morning when it is dark, work in company with neon light and coming back hme when it is dark again already... for me personal, no live. Thats why i cleared my own way.....

I think its much better to work as your own than work for a company. there are many advantages if you handle your own time, strategies and management if you are the on your own.

Yes i am agree with all of you..Because if you work for own company then you think more for each work..

Both are good option and it depends on your choice. But I would prefer to build my own business.

I also do not like to work for others, but I am working currently because of some financial issues and I am not able to get good business for myself. But the day when I will feel that now I am established and do not have any other responsibility for me, then I will quit and start my own and for that I have already launched my website also.

what Nemanja said here is exactly my experience, 5 years ago i was working in a bank , it was very stressful, leaving home very early in the morning and coming home late at night i was fed up, had to resign for my online business now when i look back to that very day i drop my resignation letter i just smile i don't regret doing so at all.

I work for myself. 8 years have passed when I got my first client. Actually that time I was learninig C programming in college. I have compiled all my programs and sold to a teacher that time and I earned $7 in that deal. It was the first experience for me and I got his contact using a bidding site "Baazi.com" that has been later purchased by Ebay and now known as Ebay.

After that I tried hard to search the next client in freelancing client and the next one I got 7 years back in scriptlance. I won 100+ projects in this site and earned about $20K in this site but later this site was acquired by freelancer. This was my beginning in freelancing sites.

I work for myself In the beginning was the hardest stage is to build useful information and then work will teach you more when you get to the stage of good information then will be able to make a profit at any time and for any building project you want to achieve your goals

i work for my self it been 3 good years now really not easy

I am working for a company, but its really harassing. Thinking to start over with my own company.

To work for yourself first of all you need to be disciplined to put in the hours, probably more so than working for someone else, you will probably be a harder task master too, BUT you call the shots and rise or fall by your own efforts.

It's great when it going good not so good when not especially if people don't pay on time..... Never looked back.
