Something Nemanja taught me when I was just starting out is that a link is a link, whether do-follow or no-follow. It still points in the direction of your site and can still be helpful if a visitor sees it and is curious about finding out more about you and your company/product.

Honestly, you know why more and more forums use no follow right? its comments like this one (IMHO, not trying to argue or cause anything) where everyone targets do-follow forums simply to post a few random posts, get a signature, or try get away with some anchor texting (which is also losing out these days), and then they move on to the next forum. it completely bypasses the reason why forums were created, and admins are becoming more and more irate about it, and then set their links to no-follow because then their forum won't be targeted - Simples.

Forums are excellent for link building, reputation building and web rep, but if you're going to abuse them, then you may as well go spam twitter and facebook. lol It would have around the same effect - none at all.

SEO wise links forum can help a lot. Your site get crawled by search engine spiders more often and also you can get direct traffic. Bloggers get more subscriber who usually stay active and vist those blogs regularly. Like Phoenyx said doFollow or noFollow you get a link. Do Follow thing matters only for Google and even that is for their PR thing mainly.

There is something I was wondering about. There was a time everyone want to get footer links from Blog themes and later Google has taken this kinda links as spam. Now This goes for Forum signature links too ? Since those who have 1000s of post will have their signature links in thousands of pages. Can this end up giving a negative effect ? If it does I think turning signature links noFollow is a good thing.
